Why You Need a Cell Phone Charger Outlet in Your Home

Let me ask you a question.  Ever had a guest or family member in your house ask to borrow your cell phone charger?

Owasso Teenager

You know how it goes.  They say, "Hey uh, do you have a phone charger I can borrow?"  Then you go scrambling around to find the one you have behind your bed.  Or in your office.  Or wherever it was you left it last.  And when you find it, they're all like, "Oh my gosh!  Thank you SO much.  My phone was at 1% and about to die!"  Then they spend the rest of the evening standing by wherever their phone is charging so they can keep an eye on it.

Yep, it's the life we live.

Here in our part of the world, the wife and I volunteer with the Junior High and High School students at our church.  And we have a pool at our house.  So you know what that means, right?  Yeah, we have lots of kids over at our place through the summertime.  And we love it.  Except for that cell phone charger thing. Because when you have a bunch of teenagers, you have a lot of need to charge cell phones.

Cell Phone Charger OutletAfter going through lots of cell phone charging cords and plug adapters, I finally found an answer to our little problem.  It's a Cell Phone Charger Outlet for your home and it is cool!

I found this one at one of the Home Improvement box stores.  It was around $40.00, which I think is pricey.  They can be purchased at the Owasso Home Depot now for around $25.00.  It was easy to install and works like a charm.  And what's really cool is that you can plug in two cell phones to charge at a time OR if you're really on your game, four cell phones to charge (Two in the middle and one in phone plug adapters on the top and bottom).

Now, whenever the kids come over (church kids or our kids), we've got an easily adaptable space where they can charge their phones.  And to make things easier, we keep spare cell phone charging cords around for Iphones and Androids.

After all, when you're a REALTOR® you're always prepared!

That's really cool, Bob! And it's great of you and your wife to be involved with the youth at your church. Don't they still need an attachment of some sort to plug in their phones?

Pat, you can use an adapter or plug directly into the outlet!

Grant, that's where I first saw one of these things!

Thats a terrific idea.  Love little gadgets that actually do their job.

That's smart.  In Starbucks, they are starting to have wireless chargers.  I'm so excited.

Bob- I am a bit of a gadget freak, so I love this. For travel, I bought an adapter that looks something like this... we can charge up to 4 iphones/tablets at a time.

We charge our cell phones at night on the self in our linen closet. That is where we had one of these outlets installed by the electrician when we built the house a year ago. In fact it is a double so we can charge our toothbrushes and ipads at the same time.

Wow!  You have to know they exist in order to know you need one!  Now I know, and I can't wait to get one installed!

Bob, a great idea since most of our gadgets need charging. Enjoy your day!

Good morning Bob,

There is a cob web corner to install one in the basement! It would serve two purposes; one getting the area clean and if they are tuned into the phone away from the party.

Make yourself a great day.

I've had several of these for 3 years or so now; it just plugs into my outlets (3 prong plug) without the need to replace the existing outlet.

I love this idea. I can put it where the old phone jack comes in. I wonder about hooking it up? Doesn't it need new wiring?

I actually keep a portable charger with me at all times.  And we purchased this for our home.  It is also a surge protector and no "install" it just plugs in an outlet and there you go.

Those cell phone charger outlets have been around for a little while now and I can't wait to replace some of the outlets in my house with them! Especially the ones by our couches in our living room where everyone gathers.

Great idea Bob, will be checking into getting a few. My brother has an old flip phone and while visiting asked if we had a cord to fit his phone as the battery was getting low. I didn't have any, so he just went to his car, started it and charged is phone.

It's nice not to tie up a port of your computer or to have a charger taking up an outlet. I think the first time I saw one was in an airport about 3 years ago.

This is definitely the way to go for anyone building a new home or remodeling.  Those plugin USB ports will also work well in the meantime.

What a handy gadget.  I'll have to clue my husband in to the existence of this outlet and see if he would like to install one in the house.

What a great idea!  And it's not just for cell phones.  You can charge your iPad, digital camera and anything else that needs a boost.

This is a great idea.  We all need to stop in and get a charge these days.  What a crazy world.

Posted by Joan Whitebook, Consumer Focused Real Estate Services (BHG The Masiello Group) almost 2 years ago

Great point. The newer homes we have are being built with these, but I've only seen that in the past couple of years. I've purchased several that I can plug in around the house, just in case.

I really like this idea.  It looks like some of the outlets I have seen at the airport. Locating adapters can be a problem spur of the moment unless a person is organized.  Let's just say, I'll be much happier with a couple of these U sockets in my house.  Thanks for the heads up!
